Notification on acceptance/rejection of submitted Abstracts: On or after 24 June 2019

The Corresponding Author will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract and will be responsible for informing the other authors of the status of the abstract.

Call for Abstracts

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is hosting its 1st National Conference from Sunday, 18th August 2019 until Tuesday, 20th August 2019 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng.

The Conference seeks to bring together delegates across all health sectors to affirm the HPCSA’s commitment to best practice in health regulation and, of course, to form and renew its network of colleagues and friends in the regulatory field.

The Council is therefore inviting submission of Scientific Abstracts. Authors are asked to submit abstracts under one or more of the following categories

Abstract Format

  • The abstract body must not exceed 300 words.
  • The word limit relates only to the body of the abstract and does not include title, authors, qualifications, affiliations and institutions. These should be populated in the section below the abstract as per submission site.
  • The abstract title must not exceed 150 characters.
  • It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that the title, author and affiliation details entered in the abstract submission site are correct and exactly as they should be published on the abstract and all conference materials.
  • Abstracts must be free from typographical and grammatical errors.
  • Standard abbreviations may be used for common terms. Otherwise, abbreviations should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word/s. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the full name/term is contained in the body of the abstract.

Abstract Assessment

The Scientific Committee in its review, will consider a number of factors, including –

  • Is the abstract relevant to the Conference Theme and Sub Theme?
  • Does the title reflect the content of the abstract?
  • Is the theme of the abstract clear/explicit?
  • Is the abstract interesting in that it adds new knowledge or a fresh perspective?
  • Does the abstract add to the current body of work in this area?
  • Does the topic include national and international perspectives and is it of relevance to a broad range of Conference attendees?
  • Is there an opportunity for audience engagement and participation?
The Scientific Committee requests that authors keep the audience in mind and ensure presentations are engaging and interactive.

Notification of Acceptance

Acceptance notifications will be sent to the submitting author via e-mail on or after 24 June 2019.  Accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference programme.
